Do you know Chattahoochee Valley history?
To answer that question, some might reference the pioneer days and our Creek Indian heritage. Others may remember famous names like Louis, Jones, Still, and Garrett. Cotton fields and cotton mills would be sure to dot the conversation, and Civil War raiders could not be left out.
There is more to our history, however. Beneath the familiar stories lies a history that is unique and fascinating. Here, truth and tale dance together. From terrible tragedies to unique weather events, there are stories that many times did not make the headlines.
Ron Williams will explore some of the Chattahoochee Valley’s weird history in a virtual meeting on Sunday, October 25th, at 3:00pm ET.
Williams is part of the seventh generation of his family to call Chambers County home. His ancestors were among the original pioneers. As a local historian, he has been gathering information on the history of the area for over 30 years. In the presentation, he will share some of the interesting tidbits that he has discovered, and he will invite you to share stories as well.
Williams once wrote a weekly article on local history for the Valley-Times News called Past Times. These articles were gathered into a book by the same name. Additionally, he has written and compiled a collection of stories on the older communities in the Southeast portion of Chambers County called Fieldstone Pillars. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, in the Shawmut Community of Valley, Al.
